The objective was to produce an innovative Data Centre for the city of Rotterdam, that rethinks the typically secure, isolated nature of such a building, creating a hybrid functionality. The Data Centre records information for the port of Rotterdam’s freight transportation network, recycling the extensive amount of generated heat to create an optimum environment for growing produce in an Urban Agricultural Facility. Consequently reducing Rotterdam’s reliance on imported goods, resulting in a simultaneous reduction in the cities carbon emissions. The aim is to conceptually ‘weave’ the two differing typologies, in an attempt to reinvigorate the public desire to partake in urban farming and support local produce, whilst continuing to meet the existing produce import demand.
